Voting Strategy Is the Main Job Now!
The latest buzz in the world of elections is the emergence of a new profession: the ‘strategy’ expert, whose primary role is to attract voters. This position is now prominently labeled as ‘Election Strategist’, ‘Political Expert’, or even ‘Election Chanakya’. The strategist’s job is to generate public favor for a particular political party and reshape its image to outshine the rival party. Political strategy is now considered both an art and a science.
The strategist’s approach involves changing the course of the campaign, tailoring advertisements based on past election data and present-day needs. One of the key tasks of this professional is to create a public perception that portrays the rival leader as either overly loyal or dangerously unreliable.
Interestingly, these strategists are expected to remain politically neutral in their personal views. Their sole objective is to secure votes for the party they are assigned to. In a way, they are special practitioners of detachment. What’s notable is that political parties and leaders now willingly hire and heed the advice of such professionals. This role is gaining popularity as a defining profession of 21st-century India.
You might have heard of the terms ‘Psephology’ and ‘Psephologist’. A psephologist is a different kind of professional—someone who studies voter behavior and election trends. In recent times, psephologists have struggled to grasp the electorate’s mood, leading to a decline in their influence. In contrast, the ‘election strategist’ is emerging as a new and intriguing player in the political arena.
